IBM Hursely, June 11 '11 (home - Sherfield Oval)

Decamping to Sherfield English for the day due to the annual carnival and fete taking place at the Whiteparish Oval, 'Parish welcomed IBM Hursley to their temporary home in the hope of continuing their promising early season form. The smattering of curious locals, including a certain lesser-spotted estate agent, were rewarded with another win and a man-of-the-match performance from Jimmy Dovey, the Sherfield native revelling in playing in such familar surroundings.

But JD had to wait for a while to get into the action as IBM Hursely batted first, Charlie and Charles sharing the new ball for 'Parish. Charlie struck an early blow, a half-tracker being spooned to cover when skipper Richie made no mistake with the catch. A period of consolidation followed as opener M Pollard (66) in particular looked to lay the foundations for a decent target. Charlie and Charles were replaced by Turkleton and JD with only a single wicket down, and JD was soon delving into his Paul Daniels Christmas Special-sized box of tricks, trapping the Hursely number 3 LBW to begin his personal march to figures of 6-33 which turned the game in 'Parish's favour. Thereafter Jim took wickets regularly, aided by a spectacular take by Charlie, running back from mid-on to take the ball over his shoulder as he dived, and a stumping from Lee "better than Adam Parore" James who had so much time to complete the dismissal that he almost forgot to break the stumps. With Paddy picking up a late scalp as well, the visitors closed on 181-8, a reasonable target and a haul of bowling points that owed a huge amount to JD's endeavours.

The 'Parish reply started in promising fashion as both Paddy and Richie looked to take on the short ball and shared another comfortable-looking opening partnership. The pair were separated when Richie was unluckily bowled, watching the ball trickle back onto his stumps having made good connection with a forward defensive. A frenetic contribution from Josh followed before he skied something ambitious to mid-wicket, but Paddy continued serenely on at the other end, easing the ball through the covers and pulling anything dropped short. Josh's dismissal heralded the arrival of JD to the crease, and he was obviously in the mood to celebrate his bowling performance with a meaningful contribution with the bat as well.

Paddy and JD became the second pair of 'Parish batsmen to post a century partnership in consecutive weeks following Rich and Charlie's exploits against Bishop's Waltham, the scoring rate increasing as JD began to feel at ease and hit the ball over the top. Benefitting from a couple of dropped chances and the heads of the fielding team going down, these two took 'Parish to within sight of the victory target when both were dismissed in similar fashion, caught in the deep trying to clear the men on the boundary.

In recent seasons, this could have sent a wobble through the side, but Trucks and Charlie were in no mood to be dictated to and finished the game with a flurry of boundaries, Trucks in particular hitting three maximums on his way to a brisk unbeaten 22 that saw 'Parish home by 6 wickets with more than 5 overs to spare.

5 out of 6 now as 'Parish keep the pressure on the two sides at the top of the division, and a trip to the Isle of Wight to take on a competitive Ryde II side next weekend.
