Curdridge, July 09 '11 (away)

After the narrowest of narrow defeats against CBBEA the previous week, 'Parish were determined to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible, but taking to the road to travel to Curdridge with only 10 players probably wasn't the first stage of Richie's perfect plan for success.

Batting first, it was up to Paddy and the returning Inzy Drew to improve matters. A track made green by the recent damp weather made timing and run scoring difficult against accurate bowling, and both openers perished in single figures. Richie and JD then combined for what was to prove to be the decisive partnership of the afternoon, and although 65 doesn't sound like a huge contribution in normal circumstances, it was evident that anything around 120-130 was going to be a tricky target if the 'Parish bowling held up, so their diligent approach ensured that a defendable total was posted. JD went for 38, a productive couple of weeks for Jim following his 80 the previous weekend. While Charlie threatened for one ball before being stumped, Turkleton and Richie cobbled together some more important runs before the skipper was given out leg before for 43. Glyn continued to look for anything loose and became just the 3rd player to reach double figures in the innings before holing out to long on. There was enough time for the guesting MC to hit first first ball straight at short extra to depart for a golden chumley, and for the still hamstrung Charles to clout one maximum before becoming the final victim, 'Parish all out for 131. Not a huge score, but a potentially handy one in the conditions.

The Curdridge top order seemed oblivious to the bowler friendly surface and set about the target like they were playing some Twenty20 hit and giggle, rather than taking their time getting the 3 runs an over required. As a consequence, wickets fell at regular intervals with the flashing blades never hinting at permanence. Jack profitted in his lively opening spell to pick up a couple of wickets and Turkleton recovered from an expensive start to return 4 maidens in his final 5 overs, keeping the pressure on the home side while JD chipped away with two more wickets to add to his already prolific season. In fact, with Inzy holding a stinger at gully and JD winning an LBW decision with the next ball, he was on a hat-trick, but couldn't convert the opportunity.

6 down and a long way from their target, Charlie had the chance to polish off the Curdridge tail and he duly obliged by claiming 3-23 as the brief resistence of the lower order was ended, despite an assortment of spilled chances that could have been more costly on another day. It was Paddy who finally wrapped up the win, having the last man caught behind by Richie with just his second ball, completing a comfortable 42 run victory with the best part of 9 overs to spare.

Not a great batting performance, plenty of dropped catches, playing with 10 men, and still won comfortably. Strange business, this cricket lark.

Summary

Whiteparish 131 all out (Richie 43, JD 38, Turkleton 15)

Curdridge 89 all out (Charlie 3-23, Jack 2-7, JD 2-22)
