Dinton, June 6 '09 (home)

A fifth win in a row for the 1st team, and a day of tumbling records at the Whiteparish Oval as the bat dominated and nearly 500 runs were scored.

Old sparring partners Dinton were the latest visitors, and they were invited to make use of the new ball as captain Turkleton won the toss for the 4th week out of 5 and decided to put his feet up while watching his top order make hay. Not exactly a glorious summer's day, but a good track and lightning outfield pointed to big runs.

JD 103Under normal circumstances, AJ's composed 37, cut off by a strange LBW decision that only the bowler appealed for and no-one celebrated, would be worthy of more attention, but the show was well and truly stolen by JD's maiden ton, a vibrant 103 off just 96 balls which included a number of well struck boundries and several balls deposited into the Skaiff's field. Showing his usual liking for the aerial route, JD put the pressure on the Dinton bowlers from the off and was soon into his stride driving over cover and pulling anything short.

When the prolific JimmyH sportingly walked after gloving one down the legside, Josh came out to join JD and the pair went on to play the dominant innings of the day. Josh's timing through the off side has quickly become a trademark of his game, and was much in evidence and he accumulated the majority of his runs in this area.

Josh 64As the Dinton bowlers seemed increasingly lost for answers to the onslaught, JD and Josh continued to plunder runs at will, a number of balls disappearing for maximums, not least a shot by Josh down the ground towards the church that either Kenny "Tall Trees" Feltham or Malc "semi-retired" Noble would have been proud of. His maiden 50 for the 1st team was just reward for a confident and skillful innings.

Jim's demise, returning to the pavilion to a bigger round of applause than an evicted contestant on his beloved Big Brother, led to cameos from Charlie (11) and Mr Darryl (19), both hitting sixes to keep the scoring rate high in the closing overs as 'Parish ended on 278-7, their highest total since the days of a certain J.Robinson.

Needing just over 6.5 runs per over from the off, Dinton were always under "scoreboard pressure" as the Sky commentary team might call it, and lost wickets at regular intervals as they had to keep playing their shots in the face of some accurate bowling and committed fielding. JD continued his good day by claiming a smart caught and bowled to remove the dangerous looking opener, and a second wicket came his way thanks to a great take by Lee "better than Paul Downton" James, standing up behind the stumps and showing good reactions.

Jimmy H worked up a good head of steam from the Football Ground End and took the important wicket of Rich Randell with a beauty before tweaking a hammy and limping off to the safe haven of slip for the rest of the innings. Just as well really, as he was soon in the action taking an excellent catch as a chance skewed off the back of the bat when a Dinton batsman tried to work Pops Green to leg and was through his shot too early. Bouyed by this initial success, Mike went on to record the best figures of the day with 4-45, aided by high quality catches in the deep from Turkleton and Mr Darryl to finish the innings from consecutive balls. Credit to Dinton, who scored over 200 for the third week in a row and never stopped playing their shots, despite falling well behind the rate, and kept the pressure on the home side.

So the unbeaten record remains intact and a first maximum points haul of the summer was just reward for an impressive all round display.

Summary

Whiteparish 278-7 (JD 103, Josh 64, The Guns 37)

Dinton 216 all out (Pops Green 4-45)
