Steeple Langford, April 26 '08 (away - pre-season friendly)
The game at Steeple Langford was a run fest. They scored 238 off 38
overs, the spin twins Drew and Petty suffering particularly harsh
treatment and not helped by a reluctance to catch amongst the fielders.
The honourable exception among the bowlers was Charlie Evans who took
3-30 off about 10 overs - not bad amidst the mayhem around him.
We scored 208 in reply and so came second. We might have had a chance of
winning but MC ran Charlie out when he had about 45 and Jazzer's
sphincter couldn't respond quickly enough to Javed's call or lack of
call. MC hit a whirlwind 47 in about 30 overs and Bambi and Javed put on
40 or so undefeated at the end. The atmosphere was somewhat marred by
incoherent barracking from a visiting spectator - a certain Lord Harris,
who was convinced he would have bowled them out for under 50 and knocked
off the runs himself using only a stick of celery which he had stolen at
teatime.
All in all, a fairly typical afternoon's entertainment.
