2nd XI vs Hampton Park, Regional 3 North West (away) July 12 '08
Whiteparish won the toss and decided to bat first on the plastic in the leafy surroundings of the Bishopdown estate.
Mike C and Sven opened the batting and with Svenny continuously annoying the bowling by lofting the ball into the spaces between
fielders, briskly moved the score past 50 in the 11th over. The score moved past 100 by the time the drinks break came and it
wasn’t long before Mr Noisy made his first 50 of the season. Ra! Ra! Ra! More pots for me! You’re crap! I’m not! Ha!
The Captain came to the crease and with plenty of wickets to spare decided to flay the bat from the off almost taking off Dave’s
head in the process. With Josh seeing the ball like a balloon at the other end the score was moving along at more than 10 an over.
Jazzer then went mental and proceeded to hit 26 runs off one over and it wasn’t long before Josh had his 50 closely followed by Captain Flap.
Josh hit his first ever 6 and almost peed his pants in all the excitement as the innings closed on 267 for 3. Jazzer was out on the very last
ball of the innings after having put on 135 runs in 12 overs with Junior Magoo.
After a tea of epic proportions, Whiteparish took to the field in high spirits with Sven’s “Think pots” words of encouragement ringing in their ears.
The Hampton Park innings started steadily enough and it took until the 17th over for the first wicket to fall with Sven bowling the opener with the
score on 69. With the required run-rate creeping up, Sven soon claimed another scalp and then it was the Great Bartelli show.
Chris Bartel was making his debut and after bowling his first few deliveries the Captain thought he’d unearthed a right pup and another potential
Lord Harris help yourself bowler. All fears were soon quashed as the Great Bartelli’s left arm legsiders with the odd straight one that confused
the batsman took hold.
With Sean claiming 3 wickets at the other end, the Great Bartelli wrapped up the innings to claim a fifer on dayboo with the Bird snaffling a couple
of catches as Hampton Park were skittled out for 149 in the 36th over.
Before heading back to the Kings Head to take the piss out of Harris, we had to first of all find a computer in Salisbury so that the result sheet
could be e-mailed in and then it was followed by a visit to the Lovely Laverstock Ladies Lingerie party hosted by Heidi who was dressed as the Swiss Alps.
Summary
Whiteparish 267 for 3 off 42 overs (Mike Coulshed 51, Sven Hocking 54, Josh Green 75*, Rich DaCosta 64)
Hampton Park 149 all out off 35.3 overs (Chris Bartel 8.3-1-36-5, Sean Coulshed 4-0-19-3)
