2nd XI vs Alderholt, Regional 3 North West (away) May 17 '08
On a cold and overcast day, Alderholt won the toss and with favourable bowling conditions had no hesitation in putting Whiteparish in.
This decision seemed a good one early on as both Javed and Mike C struggled with the pace and swing of Alderholt’s young opening bowlers and it
wasn’t long before Javed was soon taking the long walk.
Mike Green, Kevvie and Captain Flap failed to get into double figures but with Miguel still keeping things ticking over at the other end the score
moved onto 77 for 5. Mr Cricket then came in at number 6 and proceeded to up the run rate. With the score on 117, Miguel was bowled and in came
Nick Turner after a 4 year absence from the team. He did a great impersonation of the batsman on the Whiteparish logo and was soon heading back
for not a lot, in fact zero.
Ben Flynn and Sean helped Junior Magoo move the score onto a respectable 158 with Josh netting his maiden half-century in the last over.
After some truly awful broccoli quiche at tea, Mike Green and Kevvie set about the Alderholt openers and it wasn’t long before Mike bowled their
Skipper with the score on 12. Alderholt then dug in a bit with the other opener scoring steadily.
With the score on 47, the “caught Dad bowled Son” Green combination struck to break the strangle hold. The Greens soon took another wicket each
and once the Captain had made a diving catch to pluck the ball out of the top corner to dismiss the opener, Alderholt’s innings was on the downward
spiral. The run rate slowed despite Mike Coulshed’s audition for his part in “Bambi On Ice” in the field.
Nick Turner bowled a tight line on his comeback and Sean finished off the innings including a wicket with his first delivery, as Alderholt were
bowled out for 138 all out at the end of the 41st over to give Whiteparish a 20 run winning margin.
A mention must also go to Ben Flynn behind the stumps as he once again kept well and conceded a miserly 4 byes out of a total of 138.
The only unfortunate incident of the game was the Captain’s jumper being worn by the Bird when fielding. The jumper is now on it’s way to Oxfam
to be used as temporary accommodation during relief efforts in the Far East.
After a drink in the Alderholt club it was back to the Kings Head to take the piss out of Lord Harris.
Summary
Whiteparish 158 for 7 off 42 overs (Josh Green 51 not out, Mike Coulshed 43)
Alderholt II 138 all out off 41 overs (Josh Green 12-1-47-3, Mike Green 12-5-25-2, Nick Turner 9-1-14-2)
