More Words (02 Sep '08)

A plethora of match reports for you to catch up on, with the whole sorry tale of the 1st team's relegation season now being available to read via the Fixtures page.

In more cheerful news, the same page also contains a link to the report from the annual fixture against the raiders from down the road who, just for once, were successfully repelled on Bank Holiday Sunday.

Details of the 2nd team's nail biting conclusion to the season away at Shrewton will be available soon, but their tie with the league champions must be up there with the games of the season, low scoring thriller that it turned out to be.

With the serious business out of the way for another year, it's time to pack the drinking trousers and head down to Devon for our annual tour in and around the environs of Exeter. Assuming we can find 11 able bodied players, and also assuming the weather cooperates, news of the three scheduled games will appear here next week.

Pots! (26 Aug '08)

OK, a few updates to tell you about. You can finally read about the 2nd XI's defeat against Leckford via the Fixtures page, with reports to follow for the 1st team games against Ramsdell, Michelmersh & Timsbury and Sutton Scotney, as well as the 2nd XI game against Sparsholt. Just a matter of getting round to posting them...

The Fixtures page itself has been updated with the results of the final few Border League games, as well as Saturday Hampshire League results and what happened in our scheduled friendlies.

The 1st team averages have been updated with just 1 game left in the season, those that like to consider such things can get a good idea of who's in line for silverware at the end of the season. Take a look at the figures on the Stats page.

More to come in the next day or two, including news of the fist trophy of the season for Whiteparish, having humbled that lot from up the road to win the Doug Duggard Shield for the first time since 2002.

Technical Issues (21 Aug '08)

Sorry for the long delay in updates - much like our 1st team's batting, the PC has been experiencing technical issues. Unlike our batting, it has now been replaced by a far superior model, so updates will be flowing again as of this evening.

First up is news that you haven't really missed too much over the last 3 weeks of site inactivity! The title chasing 2nd XI have had all 3 of their scheduled league games rained off in that time, so absolutely nothing to report there. The 1st team were also rained off against Alresford on August 9th, but managed to play on the 2nd and 16th, racking up another pair of narrow defeats between the showers. Full details of these games will be posted shortly - they've been written, just a matter of me finding the time to post them!

However, the 1st team averages have been updated, so you can get a good idea of the runners and riders for the batting and bowling honours on the Stats page.

It's also worth mentioning that this coming Bank Holiday weekend not only sees the usual pair of league games on the Saturday, but also the annual Whiteparish vs Sherfield match on Sunday for the much coveted Dug Douggard Shield. All this to the background of thumping baselines as the Kings Head Beer and Blues Festival entertains the punters, so what better excuse do you need to come along, watch a bit of cricket, have a beer and enjoy what's left of our glorious English summer?

Good Grief! (31 July '08)

Ever wondered what would happen if roughly 20 people were all unavailable on the same weekend when we needed to field 2 Saturday league teams?

The answer, somewhat unsurprisingly, is a pair of thumping defeats, record breakingly so in the case of the 1st team who were subjected to a fearful afternoon of leather chasing at Easebourne. If you really feel like putting yourself through reading the match report, it's avaialble through the Fixtures page.

Chris Martin-Jenkins Eat Your Heart Out (24 July '08)

A plethora of match reports have been added to the site, taking in the 1st team's stuffing at Winterslow and th 2nd team's triumphs against Farley, Hampton Park and Tytherley. A usual, access is via the Fixtures page.

With only 6 games left in the HCL season, the 1st team are rooted firmly to the foot of Regional 1 North and need to turn their current batting woes round very quickly if they are to have any chance of staving off relegation. Meanwhile the 2nd team are officially on a pot-hunting crusade in Regional 3 North West, being sat comfortably in second place and waiting for their chance to pounce.

This weekend sees the 2nds at home, so get on down and support the boys if you're able, while the 1sts are busy packing compasses, survival rations and GPS systems for their adventure east to take on Easebourne in the borderlands of Sussex.

Bits & Pieces (16 July '08)

No, not a description of our players, but the range of updates that have been added to the site.

For those keen to relive Saturday's hammering for the 1st XI, a match report is now available from the Fixtures page. Still awaiting the better news from our 2nd XI roving reporter.

The results of the Tuesday evening and friendly fixtures have also been updated with a few missing details. I know this area of the club tends to get a little overlooked on these pages, so time to put that right.

The Border League side have been enjoying one of the best seasons in living memory, currently sitting in fifth in the Division 2 table. Bearing in mind they're usually propping up the rest of the league, this represents a severe case of vertigo!

In particular, the season to date has been notable for the run scoring exploits of Matt Metcalfe who is comfortably top of the Div 2 batting with an impresive aggregate of 370 runs so far. Also well worth a mention for his rapidly improving bowling is Josh "Mr Cricket" Green who has so far snaffled 10 wickets with his flight and guile. It's good to see this element of the club thriving, so congratulations go to all concerned, both on and off the pitch.

Same Old, Same Old (13 July '08)

There seems to be a recurring theme to these news updates...

Yet again I have to report a complete trouncing for the 1st XI. Doesn't seem to matter if the oppo are top of the table or rock bottom, they'll still happily roll us over for next to nothing and knock off the total in plenty of time to be home for tea and lashings of ginger beer! Updated averages, for what they're worth, are on the Stats page

However, the imperious 2nd XI march on, thumping Hampton Park after piling up a huge 260odd and then letting the spinners loose, Jazzer's modus operandi this season. Well done boys! Obviously been watching England...

In addition to these events in the HCL, there have also been a number of updates to the fixture list, with a couple of additional friendlies having been arranged for the coming weeks. See the Fixtures page for full details.

2 more wins! (02 July '08)

A pair of superb results for the club last weekend as the 1sts beat Linkenholt in a nail biter and the 2nds enjoyed a run fest against Ampfield.

Thanks to the pen of stand-in scribe Timmy Drew, a match report for the 1st team's victory is available on the Fixtures page. 2nd team report to follow when Jazza and MC have recovered from their run scoring exploits!

Match reports (26 June '08)

Match reports are now available from last Saturday's games. As usual, find them through the Fixtures page.

A big weekend ahead as the 1st team travel to Linkenholt looking for a second win which would enhance their prospects of avoiding a rapid return to Regional 2 North West at the end of the season. Extra intrigue has been added by the return of Richie Hamblin to the starting line up, having agreed to marshall the troops in the absence of Captain Turk. All the best boys!

At the same time, the 2nds are endeavouring to continue their fine run of form which has seen them become serious promotion candidates in Regional 3 North West. We could end up in the same division at this rate!

More updates than you can shake a stick at (22 June '08)

OK folks, a bumper crop of match reports have been added so you can read all about the 1st team game at Owslebury and the 2nd team matches against Andover and Amport. Further reports for the games played on the 21st will be added just as soon as we've written them! Suffice to say that the 1st team went down to a brave defeat against Ashford Hill while the 2nds continued their excellent season with a win against Romsey. Results and reports, as usual, are on the Fixtures page.

Our social secretary has also asked me to remind you that the next edition of the cricket & football club quiz night is to take place on July 7th at the Kings. An updated Social page is now available.

Without the usual suspects being around, the contest for the 1st team batting and bowling cups is shaping up to be the most open race for many years - the form of the leading runners and riders after 7 games can be viewed on the Stats page.

Wonder of Wonders! (15 June '08)

Blimey - we'd nearly forgotten what that felt like!

For the first time this season, both the 1sts and 2nds chalked up wins on the same day, the 1st XI breaking their league duck away at Owslebury while the 2nds came up trumps in a low scoring game against Amport at the Sherfield Bowl.

As seems destined to be the way this season, the news was not all good. Jim Dovey badly broke a finger trying to take a catch off his own bowling, so the leading run scorer and wicket taker in the 1sts missed the triumphant conclusion to the game as he was whisked away to casualty, and may be out of action for a while. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, JD.

Breaking News (8 June '08)

As if further proof were needed, our resident intrepid cameraman captured conclusive evidence on Saturday that Lord Harris is indeed a man out of his time.

The time travelling Lord Harris This remarkable shot (thanks JTF) was taken as the 1sts slumped to their 5th consecutive defeat in Regional 1 North, going down by 6 wickets to Colden Common. The less said about that the better really.

Unfortunately, the 2nds were also on the wrong end of their result, so not a great weekend for the club. I'm getting a distinct feeling of de ja vu...

100% Record Intact (2 June '08)

Another memorable weekend on the cricket pitch for Whiteparish as one of the teams maintained their 100% start to the season.

Unfortunately, that was the 1st XI, who have now lost 4 out of 4 after coming second again, this time away at Twyford.

By the time that game had finished, news had already filtered through that the 2nds were taking an early bath after being comprehensively outplayed by Wellow, losing their unbeaten record in the process, so a fairly inauspicious day all round.

2nd Team Match Reports

Thanks to the 2nd team's very own Christompher Martin-Jenkins, match reports for the 2nd XI's three consecutive league wins are now available from the Fixtures page. Keep 'em coming lads, both the wins and the reports!

2nd Team March On

The league campaign of the 2nd XI is gathering momentum, with a third win in three games coming at Wilton. Just as well, as the 1st XI continue to find life a struggle in Regional 1 North, going down to a third straight defeat, losing by 17 runs to Midhurst.

2nd Team Setting the Standard

Just as with the first week of the season, the 2nd team returned from Alderholt triumphant while the 1sts collected another silver medal from their home game with Upper Clatford.

As well as Saturday league action, there have also been 2 mid-week games since last weekend. A defeat on Tuesday in the Border League was followed by a gripping win in the dark and drizzle at Swan Green on Thursday night in the Cup. With the scores tied at 177, 'Parish emerged victorious due to losing fewer wickets, so march on to the second round. Specific mentions here for Matt Metcalfe, who hit a brilliant 100, Charlie Evans (49) and Josh Green, who picked up a hat-trick.

If At First You Don't Succeed...

A mixed set of results for the club's two teams in Hampshire League action on Saturday with the 1sts going down to Hurstbourne Priors by 51 runs, but the 2nds recording a fantastic 8 run win against Broughton at home.

It's a bumper week of fixtures coming up with games on Tuesday (Border League) and Thursday (Cup) ahead of next weekend's league action, and there's also a friendly next Sunday away at Compton Chamberlayne. Finally, Some Updates

Sorry for the lapse in updates since January - the PC has been on the blink. Personally, I suspect Goose has been hacking my broadband connection and downloading too much produce from his Amsterdam contacts, but problem solved and up & running again now.

So, a bumper crop of new info is now on the site. Revised fixtures, including friendlies, are here.

A couple of dates for your diaries have been added to the Social page.

In case anyone out there needs them, contact details for the Saturday captains, club Chairman and Secretary have been added here.

The links page has also seen some changes, and plenty more updates across the site will be on the way as the season cranks into gear. In particular, look out for new pictures on the Profiles page and match reports for all Saturday league games as soon as our resident scribes are able to produce them. I'm planning on keeping the stats rolling too.

The first Hampshire League fixtures are coming up this Saturday (May 10th), so let's go out and have some fun!

Another thoroughly entertaining Annual Dinner was enjoyed by nearly 70 guests on Friday 30 November at Hamptworth Golf Club.
